In 2003, Jay Burns decided to leave corporate America and try his hand at starting his own business. He noticed a national shredding company serving a client in his hometown of Winter Haven, Fla. and thought this might be a profitable industry in which to invest.

Burns conducted online research and asked those in the shredding industry whom they would suggest he partner with to help establish his own shredding company. The majority of those he spoke with referred him to Shred-Tech^®, advocating its innovative, quality equipment and superior customer service. Burns took this advice and visited Shred-Tech’s headquarters in Canada to learn more about the company and its offerings. After seeing the shredding trucks and learning about the viability of the mobile shredding industry, Burns decided to purchase an MDS-25GTX.

Since founding Crown Shredding in 2003, Burns has turned a one-man operation that began in his bedroom at his parents’ house into a thriving shredding company servicing the greater Orlando area.  With 13 employees and five Shred-Tech^® trucks, Crown Shredding serves businesses ranging from law firms and insurance agencies to financial institutions and healthcare organizations. 

Over the next five years, Burns plans to expand Crown Shredding’s service area with the goal of operating throughout all of Florida.
